We aim to design gardens, build gardens and maintain gardens that are exciting and inspiring spaces to live, work and play in. Regardless of size, we believe that any outside space can be transformed using a combination of space, form and colour to achieve an atmosphere that complements both the client's personality and the style and layout of the home.
Darren Hawkes established Wheelbarrow* with a view to provding a high quality garden service in Cornwall following his move from London in 2006. Darren’s previous work included nine years as a landscape gardener working for designers such as Robin Williams, Charles Cheshire and Ivan Hicks. During this time he worked as a project manager on gardens with budgets ranging from £1000 to £70 000.
In 2000 Darren started his own freelance garden design practice creating gardens throughout central and west London for clients including Sir Tim Rice and T.V. chef Paul Merret.
With more of our countrysde disappearing by the day it is essential that we monopolise on the green spaces we do have control of. Many of our town and city gardens provide invaluable green corridors for wildlife and if we adopt a more wide-eyed view to how our garden contributes to the greater environment we really can do something to benefit the planet.
At wheelbarrow we will only use organic gardening methods and where possible we will encourage our customers to adopt a similar attitude. In designing a garden we will try and leave areas untouched or at least habitable for wildlife. We are strict in our common sense approach to planting, “ right plant for the right conditions”, not only does this give us and you more time to enjoy your garden but means less wasted water and less need for artificial feeds. Wherever possible we will use local suppliers and materials and in time we aim to have gas fuelled vehicles. All our stationary is printed on recycled paper.
