Design process
Should you be thinking of redesigning your garden contact us for a free consultation.  We will come and visit you to discuss your ideas and to give you an opportunity on an informal basis to decide whether or not we can help you.
Following your meeting you will be sent a quote for the design work and a schedule of when the work will be carried out.
If you decide to go ahead we will come and survey the site and together with you draw up a firm breif.
Depending on how involved you wish to be with the design process several meetings may follow where sketch drawings and ideas will be bandied about until all parties are happy with a rough outline of the design.  It is important at this stage to take time to think things through as landscaping can be very expensive and the cost of altering plans is far less than the cost of altering works once they have started.
Your final plan will be hand drawn to scale and where nececsary section drawings will also be provided. Regardless of whether you choose wheelbarrow or another contractor to carry out the landscaping, invoicing for design fees will be raised once the plans have been accepted.

Our take on design

Form follows function - that has been misunderstood. Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union. (Frank Lloyd Wright)

All good design begins with a problem, whether its a dark damp corner of your garden that never gets used or a sunny slope that is just too steep for comfort, chances are that in the solving of that problem an interesting aesthetic will surface.
The most rewarding job for us is to create inticing space out of wasted space.  We hope that by choosing Wheelbarrow* you will find alternative suggestions and new ideas that maybe hadn't crossed your mind.

Although as a designer I am interested in the fashions of contemporary design and new materials I  am inspired more by the pattern of nature.  I hope that if there is a recognised style to our work that it lies in our attention to detail, our blending of materials and the 'bleed' between sufaces that occurs at meeting points throughout the garden.

design fees
How much should it cost to have your garden designed and how much should you spend on the work?

If you are spending thousands on landscaping ( and lets be honest not a lot can be done for £500.00) then it must be worth using some of that budget on employing a designer to make sure you are optimising the space available and making sure that the choices being made are the right ones for you.
Our fee is different from job to job depending on the complexity of the project but as a rule of thumb it could be somewhere between 4% and 8% of the total spend.  For that cost you will recieve expert advice and thoroughly thought through plans.
It often helps from a design perspective to have an idea of the budget you are thinking of allocating to your garden.  That way the design can be planned so that the construction costs meet your expectations. Contact us for more information.
